Take Two

Take Two

The electronic and coding portion of the machine are basically done, all that’s left is to finish the housing. I started by creating another paper template, which I used to create a layout for the front panel. I wasn’t really sure how many of each LED I wanted to use, or how I wanted to organize them, or whether or not I wanted  to add diffuser panels, but I’m pretty happy with the layout I settled on. They are three red 5mm LEDs in the center, which will be used to display the weapon mode and possible serve some secondary function. The two main light arrays are composed of nine diffused 10mm LEDs: three white, and 6 red/green. I think I’m going to try and make it so that each LED can be individually controlled however, I’ll have to see how easy it would be to add an additional serial to I/O bus. Below are some photos of the construction:

Unfortunately, the guide holes are a little off. While it’s not terribly noticeable it’s something I’ll have to consider during production. That’s pretty much it for now, I’m hoping to finish the front in the next day or so.
